Using research gathered from the New York Public Library’s Schomberg Center, I created this 16-page newsprint guide for Thumb as an accompaniment to a traveling exhibition and symposium organized by architect William Daryl Williams.
The Dresser Trunk Project chronicles the lost stories, memories and places of refuge for black travelers during segregation. Ten participants created memory boxes, or trunks, corresponding to cities along the Southern Crescent Line. The guide chronicles the histories of each location and connects them together with a map on the center spread. The resulting project links isolated places together to encourage the preservation of this unique heritage.
